EU Animal

About us

About Us

EU Animal was founded by Jan and Charlotte Koldinghus, who have had animals as a central part of their lives for many years and are active breeders themselves.

The idea for EU Animal grew from our own experiences as pet owners and breeders. We found that information about animal welfare, transport regulations, legislation, breeders, veterinarians, and the buying and selling of animals is often scattered across many different places and can be difficult to find.

We also experienced that many pet owners and breeders do not always fit into existing systems and organizations. Even if an animal does not meet all the requirements for pedigrees, exhibitions, or certain association rules, it still deserves a good life, responsible owners, and respect.

That is why we wanted to create a platform where there is room for all animals and pet owners – whether you are a professional breeder, hobby breeder, or simply a pet owner.

EU Animal is built with a love for animals and a vision that every animal has value.

About Jan Koldinghus

Jan Koldinghus has a broad professional background in transportation, customer service, and healthcare.

He is educated in land transportation and has worked for many years as a driver in various industries, including waste collection, taxi services, and sales for several ice cream companies. Through these roles, he gained extensive experience in customer service and working with people from all walks of life.

Jan is also a qualified Social and Healthcare Assistant (SOSU Helper). Through his work with elderly people, he has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that pets can have on quality of life, comfort, companionship, and daily happiness.

In addition, Jan has completed several courses in security services, transportation, and animal transport. Through these experiences, he gained valuable insight into the regulations and requirements surrounding animal transportation and learned how complex legislation can often be for ordinary pet owners.

These experiences helped inspire the creation of EU Animal – a platform designed to make it easier for pet owners, breeders, and businesses to find information about animals, animal welfare, transport regulations, and legislation across Europe.

About Charlotte Koldinghus

Charlotte Koldinghus is a qualified Social and Healthcare Assistant and has spent many years working in care and support services.

Through her work, Charlotte has experienced the powerful impact animals can have on people’s well-being and quality of life. Especially among elderly people and individuals living with dementia, she has seen how interaction with a dog or cat can bring joy, comfort, companionship, and treasured memories.

For several years, Charlotte brought the family’s Golden Retriever to work during night shifts, where the dog brought happiness to both residents and staff. In addition, Charlotte and her family have spent the last 25 years visiting nursing homes with their dogs as visiting companions.

Charlotte is also an active breeder and has helped bring many puppies and kittens into the world over the years. She is what many would describe as a “Mother with a capital M” – not only to her own children but also to her animal children and the many animals that have been part of the family’s life.

For Charlotte, breeding is not just about producing animals; it is about giving them the very best start in life. She has dedicated countless hours to caring for, nurturing, and socializing animals, while also supporting new families as they welcome a new companion into their homes.

Alongside her professional qualifications, Charlotte has completed several leadership courses, which she applies in her daily work and in the development of EU Animal.

The Future of EU Animal

Our dream is to create Europe’s largest community for animals, pet owners, breeders, businesses, and organizations.

We want to make it easier to find information about animal welfare, legislation, transport regulations, veterinarians, breeders, pet stores, and much more – all gathered in one place.

At the same time, we want to work towards better animal welfare across Europe. Not through conflict or criticism, but through cooperation, education, and shared solutions.

In the long term, we hope to use EU Animal to support projects, organizations, and initiatives that work for the benefit of animals. We want to be a voice for the animals that cannot speak for themselves.

We believe that the path to better animal welfare is not necessarily the most expensive one – but the smartest one. By bringing together knowledge, creating partnerships, and helping pet owners make better-informed decisions, we can build a future where more animals enjoy better lives.

EU Animal is not just a website. It is a vision of a stronger community and a better future for Europe’s animals and their owners.

Jan and Charlotte Koldinghus are the founders of both EU Animal I/S and EU Animal Association, and their long-term ambition is to help build one of Europe’s leading organizations dedicated to animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and support for animals and their families.

Together, we can make a difference for animals and the people who love them.
